Welcome
WELCOME TO ST. MARK'S BASILICA
St Mark's Basilica welcomes worshippers and visitors who come every day to pray and admire its unique artistic heritage. Please remember that, as this is primarily a place of worship, visitor access may be temporarily suspended for this very reason.
The new entrance system for St. Mark's Basilica also includes churches and ecclesiastical museums in Venice's historic centre, the result of joint efforts by the Procuratoria di San Marco and the Patriarchate of Venice.
The project marks a historic moment: allowing visitors to St. Mark's Basilica free access to over 40 churches on the main island of Venice (and others) of great cultural and religious interest, with a system that will progressively lead to the regular opening of over 45 sacred buildings by the end of 2026.
The process will be gradual and only made possible by increasing ticket prices for the various areas of the monumental complex of St. Mark's Basilica. The new 'contribution for St. Mark' already allows visitors to visit the Basilica of Torcello, the Manfrediniana Art Gallery, the monumental Sacristy of La Salute, and free access to the churches belonging to the former Chorus circuit, which will be open free of charge from Monday to Saturday. Admission fees will remain in place only for certain sacristies and internal museum areas: the Oratory of S. Polo, the Sacristy of SS. Redentore (on Giudecca Island), the Museum of S. Zaccaria, and the Museum of S. Stefano.
A cultural and spiritual project
The initiative promoted by the Procuratoria di San Marco for its visitors is part of a broader idea that aims to give back to communities and visitors the spiritual, artistic, and historical wealth of Venice's ecclesiastical heritage, promoting hospitality, accessibility, and appreciation.
A system in the making
The new project will be monitored over the coming months to test its sustainability, service quality and capacity, with the aim of achieving - by the end of 2026 - a system that is open seven days a week, in line with liturgical needs and staff availability.
